A Wisbech resident has raised a petition to Government to keep the Wisbech
to March line open as a commuter link. The line was closed under the
Beeching cuts in 1968. The loss of this link to the rest of the British
railway system now affects the local area due to the growth in road
traffic. Wisbech as Capital of the Fens has been completely isolated
from a railway link for 40 years. In view of the areas congested roads
and the repetitive closures of same due to accidents, this is the only
viable solution for the Town's future growth.
The petition to Government is now closed. It received 138
signatures and no Thomas the Tank. Considering the small number of interested
parties with a computer, it wasn’t so bad. As far as I’m concerned it was a
strike in the right direction even though it didn’t make the required 200.
A point has been made and I now know there is a following,
particularly from the many without computers.
Thank you all for your support. The fight goes on.
